INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

Phytoparasitica publishes original research contributions on the biological, chemical and molecular aspects of Entomology, Plant Pathology, Virology, Nematology, and Weed Sciences, including insecticides, fungicides, herbicides and other biocides. Emphasis is laid on new approaches in the control of pests and diseases; reports of surveys involving innovation will be considered, but papers reporting routine control experiments or routine surveys will not be accepted. Faunistic and mycological studies are beyond the scope of this journal and will be considered only in cases of major economic importance with clear relevance to Crop Protection. Taxonomy, as such, will not be considered. Authors of review papers should consult with the editors prior to preparation of the manuscript (ms.). Short communications [Notes] must be based on adequate experimental evidence and not exceed 4 pages in print, including at most one table or figure. Authors whose native language is not English should have their paper edited professionally prior to submission. Before preparing the typescript for submission, study the format of mss. already published in Phytoparasitica. Manuscripts are peer-reviewed by experts selected by the Editorial Board, but authors may propose reviewers, and should provide their names, addresses and e-mails. The author is given an opportunity to revise the ms. in accordance with the referees' and editors' suggestions; a revised ms. must be returned within 4 months or will be considered as a new submission. The final responsibility for the selection of papers rests with the Editorial Board. Correspondence should be addressed to: Executive Editor, Phytoparasitica, P.O. Box 2385, Rehovot 76123, Israel. Fax: +972-8-9365858; e-mail: vrpriel@priel.co.il; include a fax number, e-mail address and full institutional address on all correspondence. Submission of a ms. to Phytoparasitica implies that it consists of unpublished new information and does not contain any material that has been published or is under review or consideration for publication elsewhere; and that it has been approved for submission by all of the authors.

MANUSCRIPT
The journal is computer-composed. Manuscripts should be submitted as attachments via e-mail (vrpriel@priel.co.il), with a separate file for each figure; and text and tables transmitted together as a single file. Lines should be numbered in the left-hand margin of every page. Experiments must be repeated to the level required for statistical analysis; all field and laboratory data (except for descriptive biology) must be subjected to statistical analysis. Descriptions of experimental design should include information such as sample size, number of replications, and statistical methods used. Indicate the measurement units (metric system) for each variable. The names of insects and insecticides should be in accordance with the Entomological Society of America; of herbicides, in accordance with the Weed Science Society of America; and of fungicides and nematicides, in accordance with the American Phytopathological Society. All words which are to be italicized in print, such as names of genera, species and viruses, should appear in italics in the ms.

REFERENCES
References should be numbered and listed in alphabetical order, as follows: name and initial(s) of every author; year of publication (in parentheses); title of paper; contracted title of periodical according to the BIOSIS Serial Sources, in italics; volume number in Arabic numerals; first and last page numbers. References should be cited in the text by number (in parentheses). The reference list should include only works cited in the text; only those which have been published or are in press; and which are printed in English or have an English, French or German summary.

If subsequently `saved as' in a .jpg file format, select the highest quality settings. Drawings, graphs with lines and/or text should be saved at 300 dpi resolution and in an .eps file format. If the drawing/graph is scanned from an original printout, it must be scanned as a `grayscale image with text' at 300 dpi resolution. However, if it is created as an .eps file, it may subsequently be saved in a .jpg file format. Do not save as, or submit, any material in a .pdf file format.
Letters and numbers should be uniform and legible when illustrations are reduced to final size for publication.
